I hate the hospital...

Well, the week back to work started out normal enough. Then on Wednesday, I thought Zach was acting like he didn't feel great when I picked him up from the sitter. And I was right - around 6:00 Wednesday night he started vomiting like crazy and vomited all night long. Thursday morning I stayed home with him, and after Chris left for work Zach started throwing up every few minutes. As soon as he was done vomiting, he would just beg for something to drink.... so I knew he was dehydrated. In desperation, I called Heidi to come over and help me until Chris could leave work half day to come home. I don't know what I would have done without her. She was a total lifesaver, especially when Zach puked right in my face (thank God my mouth was closed or I'd have added to the mess). By the time Chris got home, I was really worried about Zach because he couldn't keep anything down for more than a few minutes, and he hadn't had a urine diaper for over 8 hours, which is a definite sign of dehydration. When he started acting lethargic, we took him to him ER. They did blood work on him and determined that it was a gastrointestinal virus that has been making the rounds, and that he was severely dehydrated. So my poor baby got an IV and had a full bag of IV solution go through him... and he started feeling better! When they gave him some pedialyte to drink and he was able to keep it down, they let us take him home. My mom and dad were at the hospital with us at this point, and Zach only had eyes for his Grammie. I'm thinking he was holding a grudge for me not rescuing him when those horrible nurses were holding him down and poking him with needles! He just clutched onto her, and as she was putting him in his car seat he looked at her and said, clear as day, "I sick". It was both adorable and pathetic at the same time.
He's thrown up a couple more times and has had diarrhea, but overall he's on the mend. I think by Monday he should be okay. Our babysitter was nice enough to let us borrow her carpet cleaner, because frankly the odor was overpowering where he was sick so many times. I'm just relieved he's okay. My little guy truly is a Superman...

I'm so glad that he is doing better. I'm sure that must have been such a rough couple of days.
